Deaflympics - News am 1. Februar 2007:
40th ICSD Congress
The 40th ICSD Congress met today on February 1st, 2007, with 96 delegates from 48 countries, with President Dr. Donalda Ammons taking the podium in her role as the President of ICSD (International Committee of Sports for the Deaf), on a day when snowflakes fell in Salt Lake City. They gather every 2 years during both the summer and winter Deaflympics to review the developments of the past 2 years that go by in between their meetings. They went over some rules and important information regarding the Deaflympics during the meeting today. They are also gearing up for the February 2, 2007 ICSD Congress meeting; they are expected to hear a bid to host the Deaflympics in Athens, Greece. The Hellenic Athletic Federation of the Deaf hope to win their bid for the 22nd Summer Deaflympics in 2013.
The ICSD Congress who convened today discussed many issues with the delegates adding their "voice" and proposals of their own; it was an international climate as many delegates got a chance to stand on the podium to propose or express to the members of ICSD, or to vote. It was a spirited meeting with Dr. Donalda Ammons and others supporting the ICSD in their goal to make the Deaflympics grow strong and to flourish as an international sports organization, which are sanctioned by the IOC (International Olympic Committee). ICSD is still going strong, after its' establishment in 1924; ICSD just added four new countries, which are Bolivia, Gambia, Italy,
and UK.
The fact there are four new approved countries demonstates the strength of the ICSD and the growth of the Deaflympics!
